Web Design Tips – 5 Mistakes
If you already have a website and like many others, you know there is something wrong with it, then read on!
Maybe it doesn’t look right, or it has a high bounce rate (this is the action of traffic hitting your site then bouncing away because what they see is not what they want!). Maybe your complaint is that it doesn’t convert and you had spent all this money on its design and creation to get this very result, so understandably this can be annoying.
The good news is that it may be a simple problem with a quick fix. Please read on and see if anything is of benefit to your specific scenario-
Here are some web design tips for 5 of the most common mistakes.
1) Your text isn’t right for your websites overall mood or niche. You have to be aware of who it is that is going to be reading your information. Finding the right text to captivate the mood of your website is often a more difficult task than first thought. If you believe this may be a problem for you and your site, then check out Dafont.com as this site could help. Dafont is a free resource that web designer use all the time to find the right exact font for a particular web design project. It gives users thousands of unique fonts that can be organized by style, artist or name. Check it out!
2) The website may simple not be compatible with multiple browsers. Now this is a major issue if you are not even aware of it. What it means is that what you see on you browser (your view of your site) may not be (and more than likely)what others see! Many websites owners can be very surprised to get back an email or a comment feedback from clients or visitors that tells them that their site doesn’t work properly in Google Chrome! Maybe the text is jumbled or the images over lap or the logo is dropped etc. These issues are unfortunate, considering Google Chrome is the fastest growing browser online. Therefore, it is definitely worth the time to check out Browsershot.org, a free website that tests your website’s compatibility in any and all browsers. If you at least know the issue then you can seek the solution.
3) Your color scheme is completely off base. Maybe you thought that vibrant pink and blue worked for you but your potential visitors hate it! Again bounce rate goes through the roof! If you don’t have an eye for color schemes, then I suggest that you should try Colorschemedesigner.com. This site is easy to use and can be very effective in creating a great mix of colors and pallets that work well together. All you have to do is enter in a base color (traditionally it’s a good idea to enter your logo color) and see up to 20 compatible colors! Now at least you can use these results to make your website more stylish. Again, a good point to note is that this tool is completely free.
4) Your website’s navigation isn’t set up properly, can be yet another example of why people don’t hang around to long on your site. While I don’t have a quick fix tool to help with this little issue, there are a few guidelines which you should try to follow. One of the largest mistakes website owners make within their navigation is their order of the individual tabs or pages. If you browse around, you’ll see many websites that have a “Home” tab presented first on their navigation, and have an “About Us” tab presented second. Don’t make this mistake. People really don’t care who you are; they care about what you offer and at what price. You are better off listing your “Services” or “Products” tab after your “Home” tab, followed by your “Pricing” tab (if applicable). Place your “About Us” tab towards the right side of your navigation near or after the “Contact Us” tab.
5) Your “Call to Action” isn’t in its proper place. If you don’t know what your call to action is then you need to get back to the drawing board. Basically, it is you way of getting clients to buy or do what you want them to and the whole purpose of having the website in the first place! It’s crucial to put your call to action front and center, and on nearly every page. If your call to action is to have visitors purchase, keep that option open wherever you describe your product or service. If you want visitors to call you on the phone, put your phone number in your header to be seen on any and every page.
